Her early successes in the performing arts, that we now know to be Maureen O'Hara, would certainly have qualified her to be in being in the "child prodigy" category. It was an innate quality for a woman who was of Irish descent, that was surrounded during her early years by talented family members as well as parents. Maureen joined this wonderful sanctuary located in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons was the mother of her. She was a accomplished contralto. The father of her, Charles FitzSimons, managed an enterprise in Dublin and also owned part of the famous Irish soccer club "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen FitzSimons placed second from a household of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off the gorgeous family. Maureen was a fan of rough sports as young and became very adept in them. This naturally-born interest with her ability for performing was remarkable. This was demonstrated by her receiving nearly every Feis award for drama and performances in the theater that her nation offered. When she was in her 14th year she enrolled in an organization called the Abbey Theater to follow her goal of studying operatic and classical vocals.
